Day 2 Nairobi-Ngorongoro (BLD)
Drive to Arusha today where you stop for lunch before continuing on to Ngorongoro. Professor B. Grzimek once wrote about Ngorongoro Crater: "It is impossible to give a fair description of the size and beauty of the Crater, for there is nothing with which it can compare." As you descend to the floor of the crater, you will quickly agree with the Professor. The crater comprises 100 square miles of the Conservation Area and supports more than 25,000 mammals. Grazers like zebras and wildebeest dominate the landscape but giraffes are notably absent as there is insufficient food to support them. Choice of Accommodations
Day 3 Ngorongoro (BLD) A full day of game viewing in the Crater is a highlight. The crater is home to a wide variety of both herbivores and carnivores. Zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and eland are abundant. With such a rich food supply, carnivores like lion, hyenas and leopard are also at home in the crater. Watch for the kori bustard (the world's largest flying bird) to see if you can spot its elaborate territorial display during breeding season. Choice of Accommodations
Day 4 Ngorongoro-Serengeti (BLD) Your drive takes you north to the Serengeti today. The name Serengeti is derived from the Maasai word "siringet", which means endless plains. Appropriately named, every year the Serengeti plays host to perhaps the most impressive migration of herbivores found in the world. Game-viewing is exciting year-round, as the Big Cats are in abundance. Choice of Accommodations
Day 5 Serengeti (BLD) The short grass plains of the Serengeti combined with an abundant source of food in large herds of zebra, wildebeest, impala and buffalo, make the Serengeti an ideal place to spot cheetah on the hunt. Cheetahs (unlike lions and leopards) will hunt during the day. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives. Choice of Accommodations
Day 6 Serengeti-Lake Manyara (BLD) As you approach Lake Manyara, you are sure to be struck by the dramatic views. The lake lies in a depressed valley with the brown and red cliffs of the escarpment rising strikingly on one side. Springs rise up from the base of the escarpment, providing a welcome water supply. Choice of Accommodations Day 9 Lake Manyara-Zanzibar (BLD) Return to Arusha for lunch and then take a light aircraft flight to the Spice Island of Zanzibar. Transfer to your hotel for a night in Stone Town which has remained virtually unchanged for the past 200 years. Choice of Accommodations
Day 7 Zanzibar (BD) This morning, transfer to your beach-front hotel for a 3-night relaxing stay along Zanzibar's breezy shores. Choice of Accommodations
Day 8 Zanzibar (BD)
Enjoy two days at leisure. Unique wildlife species are found on the island of Zanzibar. You might want to take an optional tour to the Jozani Forest in search of the distinct Kirk's red colobus monkey, one of the rarest primates in Africa. Zanzibar is known as the "Spice Island" and the smell of cloves can be intoxicating. Why not add an optional "Spice Tour" one day? Choice of Accommodations
Day 9 Zanzibar (BD) A full day at leisure to relax. Choice of Accommodations
Day 10 Zanzibar-London (B) An early morning flight takes you to Dar es Salaam where you connect to the daylight flight to London. Overnight at the airport. Heathrow Hilton
