Day 2 Nairobi-Tarangire
(BLD) Fly to Arusha
today where you have lunch
before setting out for Tarangire
National Park. One of
Tarangire
most striking features are
the majestic baobab trees
which dot the horizon as far
as the eye can see. Settle
in at your private camp site
and either relax or take an
afternoon game drive. The
permanent water supplied by
the Tarangire River attracts
a wide variety of game. You'll
immediately be struck by the
large herds of wildebeest,
zebra and elephant. Private
Tented Camp
Day 3 Tarangire (BLD)
Consult with your private driver-guide on your activity plans for today. You might like to take a morning game drive and a siesta in the afternoon. The choice is yours. Private Tented Camp
Day 4 Tarangire-Lake Manyara (BLD)
Your first stop this morning is at Mto wa Mbu Village, a trading center that has been active for more than two centuries. In addition to providing a unique cultural experience, Mto wa Mbu Village is one of the only places where you can hear Bantu, Nilotic, Khosan and Cushitic dialects all being spoken in the same place. Continue to Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara lies in a depressed valley with the brown and red cliffs of the escarpment rising strikingly on one side. Springs rise up from the base of the escarpment, providing a welcome water supply. Kirurumu Tented Camp
Day 5 Lake Manyara (BLD)
More than 380 species of birds have been recorded in Manyara and include the hadada ibis, saddle-bill stork, Hottentot teal, plover and African pied wagtail. As you game view through the ground water forest, look for the playful vervet monkeys searching for food at the top of the trees. This afternoon, a canoe safari through the shallows of Lake Manyara's soda lake provides a unique game viewing perspective. Hippos wallow in the water, elephant, buffalo and a whole host of aquatic birds gather along the shores. Kirurumu Tented Camp
Day 6 Lake Manyara-Ngorongoro (BLD)
After an early departure arrive in Ngorongoro in time for lunch. This afternoon, explore Olmoti Crater, source of the Munge Stream. A guided hike around this area provides dramatic views of the volcanic rim as well as the opportunity to have close-up game viewing encounters with elephant, hippo and reedbuck. Before returning to the camp, a visit to a remote Maasai village provides a first-hand look at the life of the people of this area. Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge
Day 7 Ngorongoro (BLD)
Professor B. Grzimek once wrote about Ngorongoro Crater: "It is impossible to give a fair description of the size and beauty of the Crater, for there is nothing with which it can compare." As you descend to the floor of the crater, you will quickly agree with the Professor. The crater comprises 100 square miles of the Conservation Area and supports more than 25,000 mammals. Grazers like zebras and wildebeest dominate the landscape but giraffes are notably absent as there is insufficient food to support them. Enjoy a full day of game viewing on the crater's floor. Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge
Day 8 Ngorongoro-Serengeti (BLD)
Stop at Olduvai Gorge this morning for a brief visit to one of archaeology's most historic discoveries. After excavating the site for more than 28 years, Mary and Louis Leakey unearthed one of the world's most dramatic discoveries: the partial skull of "Nutcracker Man", dating back 1.75 million years. Their later discovery of homo habilis (Handy Man) added to the debate of the origins of the first human. Continue on to the Serengeti, Tanzania's most famous park. Private Tented Camp
Day 9 Serengeti (BLD)
Two full days at your private tented camp in the Serengeti provide an amazing array of game-viewing opportunities. The name Serengeti is derived from the Maasai word "siringet", which means endless plains. Appropriately named, every year the Serengeti plays host to what may be the world's most impressive migration of herbivores. Game-viewing is exciting year-round, as the Serengeti is home to large numbers of lion, leopard and cheetah. Private Tented Camp
Day 10 Serengeti (BLD)
Continue game viewing in the Serengeti. Private Tented Camp
Day 11 Serengeti-Depart (BD)
A morning flight to Arusha and then on to Nairobi, arriving around midday.
